By using the Brownstone app you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
Who can use Brownstone
You must be at least 13 years old. Brownstone is not intended for children under 13, and accounts we believe belong to someone under 13 will be deleted. If you are under 18, you may use Brownstone only with a parent or guardian's permission.
What Brownstone is
Brownstone reads the apartment alert emails you choose to route to it, parses the listings out of them, removes duplicates, and puts them in a shared feed you and your roommates or partner can swipe. That is all it is.
Brownstone is not a real estate broker, agent, landlord, or listing service. We do not create listings, verify them, inspect apartments, or take part in any rental transaction. Listing information comes from third-party portals and the people who post there, and it can be wrong, stale, or already rented. Availability, price, photos, and building details are not guaranteed. Always confirm everything directly with the listing source before you send money or sign anything. Any dealings you have with a landlord, broker, or roommate are entirely between you and them.
Your account
Keep your sign-in credentials secure and do not share your account. You are responsible for what happens under it. Tell us right away if you think someone else has access.
Acceptable use
- Only route your own mail to Brownstone, and only alert mail you have the right to route.
- Do not scrape, resell, or redistribute listing data you get from the app.
- Do not use Brownstone to harass anyone, to post discriminatory content, or for anything illegal.
- Do not try to break, overload, or reverse engineer the service.
We can suspend or close an account that breaks these rules.
Ads
Free accounts see a clearly labeled Sponsored card roughly every ten listings. We do not accept broker or landlord ads in the feed, and paying for an ad never buys placement among real listings. Brownstone Plus removes ads.
Brownstone Plus subscription
- Price: $4.99 per month (US), with a 7-day free trial for new subscribers.
- What you get: no ads, 90 days of history instead of 30, alternate app icons, and price-drop watch on listings you passed.
- Auto-renew: the subscription renews automatically each month unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple ID is charged at confirmation of purchase and at each renewal.
- Free trial: if you cancel more than 24 hours before the trial ends, you are not charged. Otherwise the trial converts to a paid month. Any unused part of a free trial is forfeited if you buy a subscription during the trial.
- How to cancel: open the iOS Settings app > your name > Subscriptions > Brownstone > Cancel Subscription. Deleting the app does not cancel the subscription.
- Billing and refunds are handled by Apple under the Apple Media Services Terms of Service. We cannot process refunds; request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
- Prices may change. We will tell you before a change affects your subscription, and you can cancel.
Our content and yours
The Brownstone app, name, and design belong to us. You keep whatever rights you have in the content you send us; you give us permission to process it so we can run the service for you and the people you share a feed with.
No warranty
Brownstone is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind to the fullest extent the law allows. We do not promise the app will be uninterrupted, error free, or that it will surface every listing. Email providers and listing portals can change how they work at any time and break parts of the service.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for any apartment you did not get. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or $50. Some states do not allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.
Ending things
You can delete your account in the app at any time. We may suspend or end the service, or your access to it, if you break these terms or if we stop operating Brownstone.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to conflict of laws rules. Nothing here limits any right you have under mandatory consumer law.
Changes
We may update these terms. If a change is significant we will update the effective date and notify you in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use Brownstone after that means you accept the new terms.
